Karimganj: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that state police successfully intercepted and sent back a Bangladeshi national attempting to cross the border into India.
In a social media post, CM Sarma stated, “In a successful action in Karimganj district, Assam Police apprehended a Bangladeshi infiltrator, Md. Arif, and immediately sent him back across the border. Our forces remain vigilant to prevent any such infiltration attempts along the India-Bangladesh border.”
Previously, on October 9, CM Sarma reported that Assam Police had deported 128 Bangladeshi nationals over the past two months. “With heightened surveillance at the Indo-Bangladesh border, Assam Police has managed to push back 128 illegal infiltrators. Among the latest arrests are Babul Hussain and Sakib Mia. Well done, team!” he posted.
On October 2, the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya detained five Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross the border near Dalu while travelling in an auto rickshaw. According to the BSF Meghalaya Frontier PRO, the five individuals were chased and apprehended after attempting to flee upon being spotted by a patrolling party. They were later handed over to the Dalu police in West Garo Hills district. The detainees had reportedly been working in a garment factory in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and were trying to return to Bangladesh illegally.
Earlier, on October 1, Assam police arrested 14 Bangladeshi nationals in South Salmara and Karimganj districts. Among those detained were Md. Ariful Islam, Md. Monir Hussain, and others. Nine of the apprehended individuals were found to be carrying Indian Aadhaar cards.
