Guwahati: A man and a woman have been taken into custody in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati for allegedly operating a honey-trapping scheme. Police sources indicate that the arrests followed a complaint from a victim who had been targeted by the pair.
The couple is being accused of blackmailing an individual to extort a lot of money. Reports also indicate that these two initially threatened the victim to part with Rs 15 lakh and later demanded another Rs 10 lakh by way of threats and coercion.
Unable to bear the pressure, the victim decided to approach the police, file a formal complaint. Acting on the information provided, law enforcement officials initiated an investigation that quickly led to the suspects’ arrest.
The arrested man has been identified as Parash Baruah. Authorities believe that the woman involved might have been the mastermind behind the operation.
The police are currently looking into the couple’s methods to reveal the full scope of their activities.
