Guwahati, October 15: A joint operation conducted by the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police led to the recovery of 39,900 detonators near the Indo-Myanmar border.
An official press release announced the collaboration between Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police.
“Acting on intelligence about the movement of war-like materials near the Tayo River, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police launched an operation to intercept a motorcycle believed to be carrying the illicit cargo. The bike’s rider, upon realizing the imminent risk of capture, abandoned the vehicle and fled across the river. An intensive search led to the discovery of 39,900 detonators along with a mobile phone,” according to the official press release.
“This successful operation underscores intelligence gathering, meticulous planning, and close coordination between the Assam Rifles and local police. The recovered materials have been handed over to Mizoram Police for further investigation,” the release stated.
Earlier, on October 10, Assam Rifles recovered marijuana and Indian currency with a total worth of Rs 95.44 lakh in Champhai, Mizoram, in two separate operations and apprehended two individuals. The first operation was carried out in Champhai’s General Area Zote, where 7.36 kg of marijuana, worth Rs 5.44 lakh, was recovered. A 33-year-old individual was also apprehended.
In the second operation, carried out in Champhai’s Vengsang, Indian currency worth Rs 90 lakh was recovered. Along with that, one 38-year-old Myanmar national named Thanpmanglian was also apprehended. The operations were carried out by the Assam Rifles and Excise & Narcotics teams of Champhai based on specific information.
