MP Shares Meal with Rickshaw Pullers During Durga Puja

October 8— Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal took a moment from his official duties to connect with rickshaw and cart pullers in Dibrugarh on Tuesday, sharing a simple meal of Poori Sabji with them.

During the gathering, Minister Sonowal emphasized the government’s commitment to uplifting all sections of society through the Antyodaya philosophy, which aims for equitable development and dignity for everyone. “Your hard work has always supported the local economy,” he noted.

He added, “It has been a privilege to meet all of you today during this beautiful Durga Puja season. Sharing Poori Sabji with our Shramik brothers brought back fond memories of my childhood.”

Earlier in the day, Minister Sonowal expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects in the ongoing Assembly elections. “BJP will win for sure. The feedback we’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive. This reflects the hard work that Prime Minister Modi has dedicated to all sections of society over the past decade,” he told reporters.

As per the latest updates from the Election Commission, the BJP is leading in the Haryana Legislative Assembly elections, securing 29 seats and leading in an additional 20, totalling 49. The Indian National Congress (INC) has claimed 28 seats and is leading in eight more, bringing its total to 36. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is yet to secure a seat but is leading in two constituencies. Independent candidates have also made their presence felt, winning two seats and leading in one more.

In the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections, the Jammu & Kashmir National Congress (JKNC) is currently leading with 41 seats and is ahead in one additional constituency. The BJP follows with 27 seats and leads in two more. The INC has secured six seats, while the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP) has won three. The Jammu & Kashmir People Conference (JPC) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) each claimed one seat, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is leading in one, with seven independent candidates also securing seats.

Out of a total of 90 seats in the Assembly, results have been declared for 86, with four still pending.
