GUWAHATI, Nov 1: A devastating accident near the Khanapara foot overbridge in the early hours of Friday claimed the lives of two young individuals, disrupting Diwali festivities in the city. The incident occurred around 3:40 am when a Mahindra Scorpio with registration AS-01EG-0820 attempted a U-turn near the foot overbridge. Another Scorpio, bearing registration AS-01-GB-6269 and traveling toward Ganeshguri, collided with the turning vehicle.
Following the impact, the second Scorpio lost control, hitting the foot overbridge steps before overturning. The driver, 20-year-old Deepit Dey, and his passenger, 19-year-old Kunamika Basumatary, died at the scene. A third passenger, 19-year-old Niharike Basumatary, sustained injuries but survived the crash. The collision left the vehicle mangled beyond recognition, underscoring the accident’s severity.
