On November 24, 2024, ONGC, Assam Asset in collaboration with AISCSTEWA,Nazira/Sivasagar branch celebrated the 4thJanjatiyaGaurav Divas to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of the revered tribal leader, Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The aim of the event was to honour the legacy of Birsa Munda for his courage and unwavering commitment to the upliftment of tribal communities in India.
The program began with the lighting of a lamp before the portrait of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, symbolizing the illumination of his ideals and the spirit of tribal empowerment.
Gracing on the occasion as the Chief Guest, GGM(HR)-Head HR/ER and Officiating Asset ManagerRizwana Naqvi delivered an inspiring address, highlighting the courage and sacrifices of Birsa Munda. She stated, “Birsa Munda was a courageous leader who dedicated his life to uplift the tribal people. His commitment to their welfare is truly praiseworthy.” The Chief Guest’s words resonated deeply with the audience, emphasizing the importance of remembering and honouring such great leaders.
Special Guest P. R. Mili emphasized the importance of unity among tribal communities and the broader society. He remarked, “Unity is strength. We must come together to uplift the underprivileged sections of our society.” His message resonated with the audience, inspiring a collective commitment to work towards social equity and justice.
While speakingduring welcome and introductory remarks, the Chairman, AISCSTEWA, ONGC, Nazira/Sivasagar branch Dembi Ram Panging shared insights into the historical context of tribal movements in India, focusing on their struggle for constitutional rights, justice, and inclusive development. He stressed the need for continued advocacy and support for tribal communities by collective efforts. He further added the Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s quote“Life should be great rather than long”.
The program was attended by CGM (Electrical)- Head Central Workshop, Manoj Bhadani, CGM(Drilling)- Head Drilling Services, GirindraDeka, Former branch Chairman Biren Ch. Das and Rajib Ch. Deori, Liaison officer for SC/ST PradipKanti Das, Chief Advisor Nitya Nanda Panging and Achut Das former CWC-Treasurer along with representatives of collectives that are ASTO, AIOBC/MOBC EWA, EWC of Assam Asset.
The auspicious occasion was also witnessed by various Tribal Students’Union leaders and women organizations of District Committeelike All Assam Tribal Sangha, Sivasagar, All Bodo Students Union, Takam Mising ParinKebang, Takam Mising MimagKebang, Sonowal Kachari Student Union, Deori Student Union, Mech KachariYuvoParishad, Sivasagar District Tribal Mahila Samittee and Sivasagar District SC & ST Mahila Samittee.
The event showcased a vibrant array of cultural performances by various tribal cultural troops like Bodo, Mising, Sonowal Kachari, Deori and Mech Kachari, who presented traditional dances. These performances not only celebrated the rich cultural heritage of tribal communities but also served as a reminder of the diversity and unity within them.
