Imphal: The 1st edition of the Kwakta Football Tournament, organized by the Indian Army from January 19 successfully concluded on February 2 at Kwakta Football Ground of Bishnupur district in Manipur. The closing ceremony was attended by senior officers of the Indian Army, local dignitaries, and prominent community members.
In this high-energy competition, 16 teams battled out in 27 thrilling matches, showcasing remarkable skill and sportsmanship.
The final was played between Kwakta ward 6 against Kwakta ward 7, with ward 6 emerging victorious. Mr Jahir of ward 6 scored the most number of goals and was awarded the golden boot while Mr Samir of ward 7 was awarded the Golden glove for best goalkeeper. Player of the tournament was awarded to Mr Arif of ward 6. All the awardees were rewarded with trophees and gift hampers for their performances.
The closing ceremony also featured vibrant cultural performances, including traditional Manipuri dance, martial arts demonstrations, folk music, and contemporary performances, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. Winners and runners-up were felicitated by the guests in recognition of their outstanding performances.
The tournament received widespread appreciation from the local community, serving as a platform for youth to display their sporting talent and promoting a spirit of unity and fitness
