GU Student Nimisha Thakuria Found Dead at Guwahati Homestay After Alleged Assault

Guwahati, September 26, 2026: A Gauhati University student, identified as Nimisha Thakuria, was found dead at a homestay in the Garchuk-Dharapur area of Guwahati, in an incident that has raised serious concerns.

According to preliminary information, Nimisha had reportedly left her home in Dharapur at around 11 pm to spend the night with a friend at a homestay reportedly named ‘Rudra’s Kitchen’.

During the night, Nimisha allegedly called her mother and said that her friend had physically assaulted her. The call was reportedly disconnected shortly afterwards, following which her mobile phone was found switched off.

Concerned family members subsequently informed the Azara Police, following which police initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Nimisha was later found dead at the homestay. She was reportedly the eldest daughter of Dharapur resident Deep Thakuria and was pursuing her studies at Gauhati University.

The exact circumstances leading to her death, including the nature of the alleged assault and the events that followed, are yet to be officially established. Police investigation is underway.
