Heroin worth Rs 8 crore seized in Kamrup, two held

AZARA,Sept 3: Kamrup police have foiled a major attempt to smuggle narcotics into lower Assam, seizing heroin valued at around Rs 8 crore and arresting two persons in the process.
Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted a red Hyundai i10 (Registration No. MN 01-AW-2641) at Amingaon on Monday. The vehicle was reportedly transporting drugs from Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
During a detailed search, officials discovered 74 soap cases filled with heroin, weighing about 910 grams (excluding packaging). The contraband had been ingeniously hidden inside the car’s door panels and rear section.
The arrested individuals were identified as Gogou Suantak (33), son of Thangneinak Suantak of Sheiphei village, and Seilun Vaiphei (39), son of Thangkho Vaiphei of Makhao village — both residents of Sangaikot under Churachandpur district, Manipur.
Following the seizure, police confirmed that legal proceedings under the NDPS Act have been initiated against the duo.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Additional SP (HQ) Kamrup, Kalyan Kumar Pathak, and has been hailed as a significant success in Assam Police’s sustained campaign against inter-state drug trafficking syndicates.
