Kokrajhar: In a landmark step towards strengthening the education system in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), a total of 1,336 appointment letters were handed over to newly appointed Postgraduate and Graduate Teachers in a special event held today at Udalguri.

The distribution ceremony was graced by Hon’ble Deputy Chief Executive Member of BTR, Shri Gobinda Ch. Basumatary, along with EM Wilson Hasda and fellow Executive Members Wilson Hasda, Dr. Nilut Swargiary, Diganta Baruah, and Daobaisa Boro. Also present were MCLAs Bhaben Ch. Boro and Dipak Mour.

The move is seen as a major stride in bolstering the educational infrastructure and ensuring quality teaching in the region’s institutions.

Over the UPPL-led government’s term since 2020, the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has witnessed substantial improvements in its educational landscape. A major leap has come with the launch of the Bodoland School Adoption Programme, aiming to transform over 1,000 government schools into community-supported model schools, with plans to adopt over 5,000 schools in the future. Under the ₹2,200-crore BTR budget for 2024–25, initiatives like the Bodoland Science Mission and the Bodofa UN Brahma Super-50 Mission are actively nurturing young talent—over 31,000 students are now receiving experiential science education, and hundreds of underprivileged students have cracked state-level exams through specialized coaching.

Higher education infrastructure has also expanded rapidly. Kokrajhar Medical College & Hospital and a new Nursing College are now operational. Additional institutions, such as Udalguri Engineering College, a satellite Bodoland University campus, and a proposed new medical college, are under development. Furthermore, 35 higher secondary schools are being upgraded to model high schools, reinforcing the quality of education at the pre-university level.

Reforms like the 100-Day, 150-Target Development Programme and improved law and order have created a more stable environment for educational progress. With strategic planning, focused investment, and community participation, BTR has made significant strides in improving both access to and the quality of education during this tenure.
