In relation to the increasing rate of criminal activities inside the political arena, the Supreme Court of India has directed the political parties of the country to display all the criminal records of their aspiring candidates if any, in terms of contesting elections before conferring them party tickets.
The Parties should also issue a declaration on the criminal history of their candidates,for which all the aspiring candidates have to submit complete information about their criminal past if any, before seeking candidature to contest elections, stated the judgement.
On the other hand, in a recent judgement to a petition filed by BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay regarding a ban on the lawmakers from practicing law, the highest judiciary of India has announced that the MPs and MLAs of the country cannot be barred from contesting elections as they are not full time salaried employees.
