Retired SC justice Sailendra Nath Phukan passed away at 81
after dealing with illness for a long period.
Phukan started his career as a lawyer in the year 1972 and became a judge in Gauhati high court in the year 1985.
Later in the year 1999 he became a judge in the hon’ble Supreme Court.
Phukan worked as a justice in Odisha and Himachal Pradesh as well.
He retired as a judge from Supreme Court in 2002.
The Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal expressing his condolences over the death of the former judge shared that Phukan’s last rites would be conducted with state honour.
