Five Meghalaya High Court officials have tested positive for COVID-19, following which the High Court has been closed down for three days from today to help in sanitizing the whole building.

Officials said the “affected persons are asymptomatic and healthy. They are undergoing self isolation at the High Court Guest House and are being monitored.”

In a press statement of the High Court, it was informed that after an enquiry, it has been found that the affected persons have “not come into contact with any other person inside or outside the High Court.”

The High Court also refuted claims on social media that guests of the High Court have flouted Covid health protocol while warning all those responsible for spreading such rumours that they will be appropriately dealt with in accordance with law.

“All guests of the High Court have strictly adhered to the standard Covid health protocol as determined by the State Government, including getting themselves tested immediately on their arrival in Shillong and maintaining all quarantine and social distancing norms, etc.,” the Court said in the statement.

The Court nonetheless stated that there is a need to sanitize the High Court premises since it is a public place and so the strictest Covid health protocol is adhered to.

“Consequently, the High Court administration ordered for a complete lockdown of the High Court premises for 3 days from 10 to 12 August,” the statement added.
