Apart from the ‘COVID-19 No Tolerance Fortnight’, the Mizoram Government on Monday night decided to impose a lockdown in the Aizawl municipal area from today till November 3 “to break the chain of local transmission”. The lockdown began at 4.30 am today and will last till 4.30 am on Tuesday next.
The decision in this regard was taken at an emergency meeting held under the chairmanship of Health Minister R Lalthangliana and Home Minister Lalchamliana, after obtaining the consent of the Chief Minister.
The decision to impose the lockdown came after it was found that the majority of the new positive cases detected during the last few weeks had been locally transmitted.
The Lengpui airport will, however, remain open. However, travelling to and from Aizawl is prohibited.
Shops selling essential commodities and drug stores are allowed to open under arrangements made by respective local-level task forces. Institutions, worship places, hospital OPDs and private clinics will, however, remain closed.
The Mizoram Government had earlier decided to observe the COVID-19 No Tolerance Fortnight from Monday, during which strict measures regarding public and vehicular movement would be imposed.
Meanwhile, Mizoram today reported 34 new cases of COVID-19, taking the State’s tally to 2,527. While 14 cases were detected at the Zoram Medical College RT-PCR laboratory here, three were detected at the TrueNat laboratories in district hospitals and 17 from rapid antigen tests.
