As the nation protests and awaits justice for the 19-year-old Dalit woman from Hathras, another Dalit woman was brutally gangraped and killed in Balrampur in the state.

A 22-year-old Dalit college student was raped and brutalised in the Gainsari village of Balrampur on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the second-year B.Com student had gone to a college in Pachperwa for her admission.

According to the victim’s family, the woman was abducted on her way back home and she was raped by atleast 2 men.

Local media has reported that the woman’s legs and spine were broken after the rape and the accused sent her back home in a rickshaw in an unconscious state.

As the family tried to rush the victim to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.

The family has also alleged that the woman was drugged before she was raped.

According to the mother of the victim, she was unable to speak when she came back home and could only manage to utter the words, “I am in a lot of pain, I won’t survive.”

The Balrampur Police has arrested two accused in the case. However, it has denied that the victim’s legs or spine were broken.

“Taking quick action in the case, both accused in the case have been arrested. However, the reports of legs and back being broken have not been confirmed by the post-mortem report,” the police said.

Reacting to the horrific crime, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav wrote on Twitter, “After Hathras, now a woman has been gangraped in Balrampur and the young woman has died. We request the BJP government that it should not make the same mistakes and do a coverup as done in Hathras in this case and take immediate action against the culprits.”
