Guwahati, June 5, 2021: Observing World Environment Day, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd., a leading Indian cement major and subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat Limited, planted 1000 saplings along Paliguri- Baghjap Road in Assam today. The plantation drive led by GCW Unit Head Mr. Uday Singh Rajput, in coordination with Dalmia Bharat Foundation covered a stretch of approximately 4 kilometres close to Alsthom Industries Ltd., a subsidiary of Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd. at Jagiroad.
For the beautification and purification of the environment, plant species like the Krishnachura, Radhachura and Neem were planted on both sides of the road. Apart from the plantation drive, bamboo fencing was also carried out which will continue for 10 days to cover the entire stretch.
Speaking about the initiative Mr. Indrajit Chatterji, Executive Director, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited said, “We at Dalmia Cement have been firm believers in creating a clean and green ecosystem, especially in this pandemic situation across the world. With this tree plantation drive, we would humbly like to make a contribution towards the nature. I would urge all, to come forward and join hands to do our bit towards enabling a greener environment not only for us, but for the future generations to come. We, as a responsible corporate citizen, will always come forward to do whatever we can for the society at large.”
The event was attended by several prominent people from the local community – Mr. Pradip Deuri (President – Baghjap Gaon Panchayat), Mr. Parag Deka (Secretary – Baghjap Gaon Panchayat), Mr. Prabin Deka (Village Headman, Baghjap) & Mr. Dimbeswar Deka (Executive Member – Baghjap Gaon Panchayat). All these local community representatives were felicitated with an Assamese Gamusa & Memento by Plant Team. They have expressed their gratitude to Dalmia Management for this environment-friendly initiative.
Circle Officer Ms. Dipti Morang couldn’t attend the event physically, however she also offered her best wishes to Dalmia Cement team for initiating this Plantation Drive.
The company in association with Central Pollution Control Board, Shillong also distributed 5000 saplings to the locals at Namti, Sivasagar to celebrate the day. Dr. Shantanu Dutta, Additional Director, CPCB was present at the occasion where various local species like Agar, Lemon, Litchi, Orange, Red Chandan (Sandalwood), Titachapa, Sal, Segun, Sonaru (Golden Shower), Jetuka, etc., were distributed. The sapling distribution program was held at Ratanpur, Namti and people from various villages came and collected the saplings. An awareness meeting was also held on the occasion to create awareness about environmental pollution amongst the locals.
The company has on several occasions in the past carried out similar activities across their plants in Assam and Meghalaya. A Mega Plantation drive was organised in 2016 at their Adhunik Cement plant at East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya where 25,000 saplings were planted in 30 minutes. Similarly, a plantation drive was organised the following year near Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Setu which witnessed participation by over 130 people from surrounding areas.
