Hailing from Guwahati, Eshanee Hatimuria is the budding beauty who will be representing Assam in this year’s Miss Earth India, as she has been listed among the Top 50 finalists.
Speaking to Guwahati Times about her, Eshanee said, “I have graduated BA-LLB from Symbiosis International University. I come from a very diverse educational background. Throughout my law school, I have interned with a magistrate, criminal lawyers, Hindustan Times and NGO for Child Rights and Protection (UTSAH) and last but not the least helping with NRC related matters.”
What do you plan after law school?
After completing my law school I want to invest my time to achieve my dreams because you only live once and while it lasts I want to live life to the fullest. Becoming a Miss India has always been my dream ever since I saw Priyanka Chopra being crowned and I will make this reality with my hard work and determination. I want to touch the hearts of people with my compassion and various projects like The Think Green Initiative and Project Rakshan that’ll help the future and protect the present.
About your school life?
I have done my schooling from Delhi Public School, Guwahati. This school is very close to my heart because it taught me the true meaning of ‘service before self’. A motto that inspires me to constantly work for society and help people in need.
About your college life?
I pursued law from Symbiosis Law School, Noida. I spent 5 years in the capital of India, Delhi. It was very difficult for me to leave home and my family for the very first time but the people of Delhi and my Symbiosis family gave me love and nurtured me like one of its own. I was a victim of racism and sexual harassment while living in Delhi but I gained the courage to fight alone with strength and dignity. Every single experience made me who I am today and I am so proud of myself to pass through the storm victoriously.
Modelling, How this interest came up?
I have been modelling for handloom weavers for the past 3 years. Modelling was never one of my interests but I was a shy girl who didn’t know how to pose in front of the camera. I knew that being camera confident is extremely important for pageants so I developed the interest to learn. It was all a trial and error all this while. I started auditioning for local fashion shows where the rejection I faced is beyond words. It was because I was 68 Kilos and not confident enough to walk those ramps. A winner is just another loser who tries one more time so I kept trying. Today the love the people of the northeast gives me as a print and ramp model is very overwhelming and touchwood I will keep modelling for the love of people.
What do you think about – Modelling as a career
I think the perk of being a model is to wear the garment or accessory or any product first before anyone uses it. The model has to set a standard on how the product should be carried so that when the audience looks at it they only want to have that same product. It is a romance between the product and model. It is indeed a powerful profession where it is upon the models to change trends in society.
Tell us about your current competition? How were you selected/ Selection process?
I am competing for the crown of Miss Earth India 2021 and I am one of the finalists from the entire country. This pageant focuses on the change that beauty queens can make to the environment. The reason why I have participated in this pageant is because it’s cause had moved me. I applied while I was training with my pageant coach Ritika Ramtri. I trained with her 3 years back while I was a chubby and a shy girl. But when I came back to her after 3 long years she saw me and told me that I was ready to go out there and conquer the world. I am still training to be a better version of myself. And I think I have come a very long way.
Tell us about your transformation journey?
My journey from fat to fit is an overwhelming journey and whenever think about it, tears roll down from my eyes. I have body shamed on a very bad note to a point where it took away from me my confidence. But I never gave up on myself. I don’t think being on the heavier side of the weight is bad, in fact, the modelling industry has evolved now there is the need for plus size models everywhere.
But I am also a firm believer in criteria. Everything has criteria even to be a doctor or pilot one must qualify certain standards and such is the way with Beauty pageants. From 68 kilos to 52 kilos I have worked constantly to achieve my goals. My transformation didn’t happen overnight it took 3 years of constant determination and consistency to evolve and I know that I still have a long way to go.

My father always told me whatever you do in life no matter how much you have achieved in life never forget your roots. My root is my state Assam, the place where I was born and raised.
