BTC EM Wilson Hasda Tweeted, “Attended Annual Karam Parab and 146th Veer Birsa Munda Jayanti at Khokhabasti in Udalguri district.

The beautiful programme is organised by Tangla & Harisinga Anchalik Committees of All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA).

It was also graced by former MP Shri Santiuse Kujur.”

It is to be mentioned that Birsa Munda was an Indian tribal freedom fighter, religious leader, and folk hero who belonged to the Munda tribe. He spearheaded a tribal religious millenarian movement that arose in the Bengal Presidency (now Jharkhand) in the late 19th century, during the British Raj, thereby making him an important figure in the history of the Indian independence movement. The revolt mainly concentrated in the Munda belt of Khunti, Tamar, Sarwada and Bandgaon.

His portrait hangs in the Indian Parliament Museum; he is the only tribal leader to have been so honored.

On Wednesday, November 10, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to commemorate November 15, the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’, marking week-long celebrations dedicated to the late tribal freedom fighter.

“Week-long celebrations have been planned from November 15 to 22 to celebrate and commemorate the glorious history of tribal people, cultural and achievements,” Union Minister Anurag Thakur said during a media briefing.
