Shillong girl 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 bagged the winner’s title at the 18th Sunsilk Mega Miss Northeast 2021 held recently at Guwahati. Surong is among the three winners of the event.
Sanwaka is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Tourism at the North-Eastern Hill University.
Speaking about her education in an exclusive interview with Guwahati Times, Sanwaka said, “I completed my 12+ from St.Anthony’s Higher Secondary School. And I’ve completed my B.A degree from Synod College.”
Speaking about how she came into modeling, she said, “I’ve been competing in pageants since 2018 and my first pageant was Miss Cherry Blossom where I bagged the 1st Runner up title followed by Miss Meghalaya in which I also bagged the 1st runner up title.”
“This actually started when my mom suddenly came up to me with a form for a pageant and she told me to just audition for it. She passed away a month after I won my first pageant. I’m happy that I was able to live her dream which has now become my dream,” she added.
When asked about modeling as a career, Sanwaka said, “I think modeling gives youth a platform to showcase their talents and to explore new horizons.”
Speaking about her recent achievement, she said, “So, Sunsilk Mega Miss Northeast is the most prestigious pageant of Northeast India which provides the young women of NE a platform to voice their thoughts and opinions and it is also the only pageant the has broken all norms by having given equal weightage to all the top three winners. There’s no Runner up title. I think that’s the beauty about Mega Entertainment.”
“I was selected through an offline audition that was held at my state capital Shillong,” she added, speaking about her selection process in the event.
Message for the people of Northeast:
My message to the NE people would be that they should never stop believing in themselves.
If they want something in life, they should start somewhere and not sit ideal.
As you are a winner now, what do you want to do for your society or community?
As a winner, I would like to promote an awareness program about “Loss Of Culture”
In today’s world is the preservation of culture important?

Cultural preservation’s future is at risk Because of today’s westernized lifestyles and intense social responsibilities.
The younger generation must preserve the identity of the people who came before them.
A group’s cultural heritage is different, precious, and irreplaceable. Therefore we must embrace others’ cultures without forgetting our own.
