Kokrajhar deputy commissioner Varnali Deka ceremonially distributed the financial grants in aid for the six Rongali Bihu celebration committees under Kokrajhar district on Friday at a programme held at the DC office conference hall in Kokrajhar.
In Kokrajhar district, six Rongali Bihu celebration committees were given cheques in the presence of the MLAs of Kokrajhar district.
However, several Rongali Bihu celebration committees including Rongjali Bwisagu Pwrbw celebration committee have expressed their resentment towards the state government for depriving many Bihu committees in Kokrajhar from getting the financial aid in view of the Bihu celebrations.
Meanwhile, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) welcomed the Assam government’s decision to provide the one time financial assistance of Rs 1.5 Lakh each to those Bihu/Bwisagu celebration committees which organises Rongali Bihu/Bwisagu functions from Sankranti to the 6th day of the Bohag/Bwisagu month of Assamese calendar every year.
“In fact, there are many such Bihu/Bwisagu organising communities which are not found in the selected list for financial assistance. This has happened due to the discriminatory attitude of officers of Revenue department which is not acceptable to us. So, the All Bodo Students Union strongly condemns such discriminatory act played by some circle officers of revenue department and appeals to the government of Assam to provide the same benefit to all eligible organising committees immediately by making proper field surveys,” stated ABSU general secretary Khanindra Basumatary in a press statement.
