Massive eviction drive by NFR in Hojai

Nearly thirty-five establishments located at the center of Hojai Market near Hojai Railway Station Road were razed off by North Eastern Frontier Railways on Tuesday in an eviction drive carried on from morning 10 am onwards with the help of local administration.

The drive was a part of the effort to remove encroachments from Railways property.
However, the shopkeepers of the establishment protested against the eviction drive. The irked shopkeeper said that all of a sudden without prior notice how the railway began an eviction drive.
They mentioned that as per Court’s order the eviction must be carried out as per The Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act of 1971.
Notably, one businessman namely Achit Das died while the eviction drive was undergoing, which outraged the locals.

The eviction was carried out with full security arrangements in the presence of Railway Officers, Circle officers, Police, Fire Brigade and CRPF authorities.
It is to be mentioned here that for the construction of half pending project of the flyover bridge this eviction drive was carried out.

On the other hand, the shopkeepers of thirty establishments on Swarupananda road adjacent to Station Road have been given five days of time to vacate their establishments before the next eviction drive.
