CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Inaugurates Assam’s 1st Solar-Power Plant At Udalguri

In a major boost to significantly boost power generation and shift towards cleaner energy forms, the Assam Chief Minister – Himanta Biswa Sarma today inaugurated the state’s first solar power-plant at Lalpul in Udaguri District.

Installed under the Assam Solar Energy Policy, 2017 through ‘Build, Own, Operate’ model; this 25 MW solar plant project is an endeavour undertaken by the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) and one of India’s leading independent solar power producers – Azure Power.

This 300-crore-worth solar power project is expected to generate nearly 5-crore units of electricity; benefitting the residents of Darrang, Udalguri, and Sonitpur.

Taking to Twitter, the Assam Chief Minister – Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote “Happy to inaugurate Assam’s first solar power plant set up under Assam Solar Energy Policy, 2017 in ‘Build, Own, Operate’ model at Lalpul, Udalguri district. Inspired by Adarniya PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s vision, we are committed to shift towards clean energy in next 5 years.

I compliment @apdclsocial and @AzurePowerSolar for successfully setting up the 25-MW solar plant project. In our journey towards inclusive growth & development, we are ensuring environment preservation by initiating necessary measures.” – he further added.

 

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Azure Power – Harsh Shah, the electricity generated by the plant will be supplied to APDCL under a long-term 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

“APDCL is relentlessly striving to provide all of its customers with uninterrupted, dependable, secure, and high-quality power. These programmes will strengthen the state’s desire to cut carbon emissions, in line with Prime Minister Modi’s Glasgow pledge,” – informed the Managing Director of APDCL – Rakesh Kumar, IAS.
