A dacoit involved in many looting cases was shot at in an encounter with police in Kokrajhar district today wee morning hours.
According to Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Prateek Thube, the dacoit identified as Binay Das was shot at in the leg while trying to flee by snatching pistol police at Karigaon area under Kokrajhar police station in Kokrajhar district today wee morning.
Binay Das is a resident of Gedabari village under Kanda police station in Katihar district of Bihar.
Police said the dacoit is wanted in cases of robbery, money looting cases in various parts of Assam, Meghalaya and neighbouring areas.
On June 22, the Binay Das and his gang looted Rs 6 lakh from businessman in front of Kokrajhar Axis Bank. Police informed that the dacoits group also looted money from Guwahati and Barnihat in Meghalaya recently. In Barnihat, the local public apprehanded Binay Das and handed over to the police. He was first brought from Meghalaya Police by Guwahati Panbazar Police and from Panbazar Police Station by Kokrajhar Police to Kokrajhar yesterday.
