About:

Growing up in a family of doctors and having an education from a missionary school helped Navya Naveen Kalra realise that selfless service towards others is the only way of life. Currently pursuing her internship for the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from a premier government medical institute, the 25-year-old aspires to be an ophthalmologist to enable everyone to visualise and appreciate the beauty of the beautiful world we live in. Being a frontline worker, Navya learnt the importance of discipline, quick thinking and empathy. Having witnessed both life and death, she believes in living every moment to the fullest and never giving up on one’s dreams. Her greatest power is her versatility, as an artist at heart who loves to dance, sing, paint, write poetry and travel. Her vision is a happy and healthy future for the country’s children with access to food, healthcare and education, and she is already associated with an NGO for their holistic growth. Her dream is to represent the tricolour internationally and to empower women globally.

Q&A

Your motto in life: You only live once, so make sure the book of your life is worth reading.

The most influential person in your life: The most influential person in my life is my mother. She strikes an excellent balance between her profession as a doctor and a loving daughter, wife and mother. She has a never-ending zest for life and undying love for her country, which has had a deep impact on me.

The proudest moment of your life: I felt extremely proud of myself when one of my patients came out of the ICU after 2 months of struggling between life and death and showed his gratitude towards me.

Words that best define your personality: Versatile, Empathetic, Dedicated, Passionate, Kind, Humble.

The beauty queen that inspires you the most and why: The beauty queen that inspires me the most is Miss World 1966 Reita Faria. She represented Indian women on an international platform fighting all odds, and got the first crown for the country.

What does Femina Miss India mean to you: Femina Miss India, to me, is a celebration of womanhood. It not only gives them a platform to voice their opinions but also to inspire millions of women in the largest democracy in the world by example.

A social cause close to your heart and why: I believe every child has the right to live to the fullest. I wish to work for the holistic growth of children, including access to food, education and healthcare. Every child deserves to live with dignity as they are the future of the world.

One unique thing about your culture/state: Chandigarh stands for open to give and open to receive, which makes it one of the most progressive cities in India. It is a land where Indian culture and modernity amalgamate.

The craziest rumour you ever heard about yourself: That I avoid food to maintain my weight when I’m a big-time foodie.

Three qualities that every woman must possess: Courage, Determination, and Self-belief.

What are your expectations from Femina Miss India 2023: That I shall get the opportunity to empower women of my country by inspiring them and leading with example. I am really looking forward to celebrating the bond of sisterhood with my co-contestants and making memories of a lifetime.

If you win Miss India, what would be your first big splurge: I would invest in my beauty with a purpose project and work towards the holistic growth of children by providing them access to food, healthcare and education in association with the NGO I work with: Robin Hood Army.

If you were granted one wish, what would you ask for: Being someone who sees both sides of life every day, I wish for all the suffering in the world to go away and for a smile on every face.

What would be your advice for the future generation: My advice to the future generations would be to live life each day. To chase their dreams, educate themselves, take chances, make mistakes and learn from them and rise up stronger and better.
