State Minister Ashok Singhal declared on Tuesday that the issue of “artificial flood” in Guwahati has been significantly addressed. Singhal emphasized that the government is diligently working to assist those affected by flooding in the state.
Following an inspection of the ‘Flood Free Guwahati’ mission, Singhal held a press conference where he discussed the problem of artificial flooding in cities and highlighted the measures taken to combat it in Guwahati. He mentioned the utilization of pumps to drain water from waterlogged areas and efforts to address the causes of artificial flooding, such as blocked drains, insufficient drainage systems, and encroachment of natural water bodies.
Singhal assured that the entire government machinery is on high alert regarding the overall flood situation in the state. The primary focus remains on rescuing people, providing relief, and ensuring shelter for the affected individuals. The Chief Minister and other ministers are actively involved in these endeavors.
In recent days, heavy and continuous rainfall has affected various parts of the state, including Guwahati. The deluge has impacted more than 34,000 people across 17 districts, with reports of urban flooding in areas such as Kamrup Metropolitan, Jorhat, Darrang, Kokrajhar, and Nalbari.
