AASU and 30 Ethnic groups have statewide 12-hour hunger strike against CAA

The All Assam Student Union (AASU) and 30 ethnic groups have staged a 12-hour hunger strike in across the state against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The 12-hour hunger strike was held from 6 am to 6 pm on the banks of Dighali Pokhuri in Guwahati city on Sunday along with the entire state.

The Union demanded the scrapping of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 and slammed the BJP government.

Speaking to to the media, the All Assam Student Union president, Utpal Sarma said “the government has been trying to impose the burden of illegal foreigners by adopting whose rules. Also the government has been warned that the people of the North East will not accept what they did not accept.
On the day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival in Assam on March 8, lanterns were lit at the portraits of the five martyrs of the anti-CAA movement and the martyrs were commemorated. Copies of the CAA rules will be burnt across the state on the day they come into force. There will also be a rally in the district headquarters the day after the enforcement of the CAA rules. There will be a series of satyagrahas. “I am determined to continue my street fight and legal fight against the CAA in parallel,” he said.
