Three individuals from Nagaland, along with their spouses, have been invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the 78th Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi on August 15 as honored guests.
The invitees, Renung, Kughalu K, and AP Tsupan, have been recognized for their outstanding leadership and entrepreneurial contributions.
Renung, along with her Self Help Group ‘Limreh’ from Kiusam block in Kiphire district, has significantly benefited from the aspirational district programme. They have established a weaving and tailoring center in Kiusam village, providing training to local women and generating income through the sale of various products.
Kughalu K, from Emlomi village in the Akuhaito aspirational block of Zunheboto district, has made notable contributions to his community as a beneficiary of the MGNREGA scheme. He currently serves as the general secretary of the Village Development Board Association in the Akuhaito rural development block.
AP Tsupan, from Thonoknyu aspirational block in Noklak district, has benefited from the PM KISAN Scheme, which has supported his farming efforts since 1997. He cultivates perilla seeds, soybeans, and other crops, with additional support from the scheme helping him meet daily needs and support other local farmers.
These achievements underscore the positive impact of programmes such as the aspirational district/block initiative, MGNREGA, and PM KISAN, illustrating their role in transforming lives at the grassroots level across India.
The aspirational block programme, launched in January 2023, covers 500 blocks nationwide.
Senior scientist Dr. Lahar Jyoti Borodoloi from Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kiphire will accompany the group as the nodal officer from Nagaland.
