Guwahati: In preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities, the Kamrup Metro District Administration has issued a comprehensive advisory to puja committees, emphasizing the need to ensure a safe and peaceful environment throughout the celebrations.
During a meeting held on Thursday, the district administration and police officials engaged with representatives from over 400 puja committees to discuss security measures.
Speaking to the media, Sumit Sattawan, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, stated, “We have advised all puja committees to install CCTV cameras at their respective pandals, and they have assured us of their compliance with the guidelines. The police administration will also issue traffic advisories during the festival to manage the increased flow of visitors.”
Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Baruah added that the administration has provided clear instructions to the committees regarding safety protocols for the festival.
Durga Puja celebrations are set to begin from October 8 and will continue until October 13, with ‘Shashthi’ falling on October 9. The festival, coinciding with Navratri, marks a significant period of religious observance, culminating in Durga Visarjan on October 12, 2024, as per the Drik Panchang.
