Guwahati, October 18: A tragic road accident early Thursday claimed one life and injured two others near Sibilong, around 74 kilometers from Jiribam, Manipur. A vehicle carrying three individuals plunged into a deep gorge.

The Tata Sumo, traveling from Jiribam to Imphal on National Highway 37, reportedly lost control around 5 a.m. and fell into the gorge.

Local sources suggest the vehicle, on a business trip, may have lost control due to a technical issue or driver negligence. It rolled down a steep slope and crashed into the gorge near Sibilong village, under the jurisdiction of Keimai police station.

Police, security personnel, and local residents quickly launched rescue efforts, though the depth of the gorge complicated the operation. Tragically, Md Laskar, a 40-year-old trader from Cachar district, Assam, died at the scene due to his injuries.

The other two passengers sustained injuries, with one in critical condition. They were rushed to Oinamlong Primary Health Centre for treatment. The identities of the injured are yet to be confirmed.

Manipur Police have filed a case and are investigating the cause of the accident.
