25-Year-Old Mother of Two Goes Missing in Guwahati, Family Appeals for Help
Guwahati: Woman Goes Missing After Boarding Vehicle from Ganeshguri, Family Seeks Help
A fresh case of a missing woman has been reported in Guwahati, raising concern among residents and prompting an appeal from her family for immediate assistance.
The missing woman has been identified as Durga Karmakar (25), a resident of Tamulpur, who had reportedly come to Guwahati on a short visit. She is married and the mother of two children.
According to family members, Durga was last seen on the evening of May 11, after she reportedly boarded a vehicle from the Ganeshguri area towards Mathgharia. Since then, her whereabouts have remained unknown.
Despite repeated efforts and extensive searches by the family, no trace of her has been found so far. Following this, a missing person complaint was lodged at Dispur Police Station on May 12.
Speaking to the media, a family member stated that Durga had been staying with relatives in Guwahati and had asked a cousin in Ganeshguri to arrange a cab so she could visit another relative’s residence. Although she reportedly left in the vehicle, she has remained untraceable ever since.
“It has been four days now that she has been missing,” the family member said, urging police to intensify efforts to locate her.
The family has also appealed to the public for support, requesting anyone with information regarding her whereabouts to contact 9181140845.
The incident comes close on the heels of another widely discussed missing case in Guwahati involving school teacher Bhabana Sarma, which had drawn statewide attention.
Sarma, a teacher at Miles Bronson School and a resident of Tetelia, had gone missing last month while travelling to work. Police later traced her to Meghalaya, sparking widespread speculation. However, the case took a turn after Sarma released a video statement clarifying that she had left voluntarily on April 24.
In her statement, she denied the involvement of any third party and dismissed rumours surrounding ride-hailing services, stating that neither Uber nor Rapido drivers were connected to the incident. She also admitted that a distress message she had sent to her family was false and had been written during a period of severe emotional distress.
Police later confirmed that Sarma was safely brought back to Guwahati after she contacted her family.
With another woman now missing in the city, concerns are once again mounting over women’s safety and the growing number of disappearance cases being reported in Guwahati.
