ONGC develops 75 Model Anganwadi Centres across four States under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’

Guwahati: As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, country’s energy Maharatna ONGC has developed 75 Model Anganwadi Centres across four states—Assam, Jharkhand, Nagaland and Andhra Pradesh. Of these, 28 centres have been set up in Assam—in the districts of Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Cachar, marking a major milestone in grassroots development in the state.

The initiative, undertaken under ONGC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program aims to upgrade traditional Anganwadi centres with modern facilities and sustainable features to improve health, hygiene, and early childhood education.

“Going beyond the traditional models, the upgraded centres are equipped with modern facilities and sustainable features that ensure improved health, hygiene and educational standards,” stated in a press release issued by ONGC.

Each of the 28 centres in Assam has been furnished with Smart TVs, Pen Drives, and Bluetooth Speakers pre-loaded with educational and awareness content, enhancing the capacity of Anganwadi workers to disseminate information about government schemes and promote both pre-natal and post-natal care.

With a financial outlay of around ₹5 crore, the project was executed by the Citizens Foundation. A formal handover ceremony was recently held in Sivasagar, attended by Rizwana Naqvi, GGM and Head HR, ONGC, and the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of Sivasagar.

“The newly developed Anganwadi Centres are now fully operational and have been handed over to the respective local communities,” the press release confirmed.

“These centres have been thoughtfully designed to support the holistic growth and development of children aged up to 6 years, along with care for pregnant and lactating mothers and overall community,” it added.

The project stands as a model for how collaborative, innovation-led CSR efforts can bring meaningful change to underserved regions. ONGC’s initiative reflects its commitment to inclusive development and strengthening public infrastructure through strategic community engagement.
