Minister for Environment & Forest, Fisheries and Excise, Parimal Suklabaidya gave away cheques to women borrowers under Category I of Assam Micro Finance Incentive and Relief Scheme (AMFIRS) in Karimganj district on Sunday.
Speaking as chief guest at a function organised by the district administration at Karimganj College playground, Minister Suklabaidya, who is also the Guardian Minister of Karimganj, said the scheme is a remarkable step taken by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma led State Government to make the women borrowers loan free. “The Dr.Himanta Biswa Sarma led State Government realised the plight of the women borrowers who took loans for their financial needs. The scheme is aimed at making them loan free and to financially empower them,” he quipped.
Suklabaidya said the BJP led Government kept to its poll promise to extend financial support to those women borrowers who took loans from financial institutions.
The Minister said the Government held discussions with 38 financial institutions that extended loans to women and signed MoU with them.
Of the total 32,467 beneficiaries in the district, 4,000 cheques under Category I were handed over in today’s function.
Under Category I of AMFIRS, a total of 11 lakh women will be benefitted across the state.
MLAs, Krishnendu Paul, Bijay Malakar and Abdul Aziz, former MLAs, Dr.Sukhendu Shekhar Dutta and Pranab Kumar Nath, Karimganj District BJP President, Subrata Bhattacharjee, Chairman, Karimganj Development Authority, Debabrata Saha, SC Board Chairman, Karimganj district, Krishna Das, among others, were present on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner, Mridul Yadav, presided over the function.
