Assam Budget 2026: Government Boosts Tea Sector, Announces Higher Subsidies for Specialty and Export-Oriented Tea

GUWAHATI, July 10: Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, while presenting the Assam Budget 2026, announced a series of measures to strengthen the state’s tea industry under the Assam Tea Industries Special Incentives Scheme (ATISIS).

The minister said Matcha Tea will now be included in the eligible category of orthodox and specialty tea under the scheme, aiming to promote value addition and increase Assam’s tea exports. He added that Assam has already taken a significant step in this direction with the successful production of premium Matcha Tea.

To further support tea producers, the government has increased the production subsidy for orthodox and specialty tea from ₹10 per kg to ₹15 per kg.

Additionally, a new subsidy of ₹3 per kg will be introduced for export-oriented and premium-quality Assam CTC tea that is directly exported through recognised export channels.

The Finance Minister said these measures are aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Assam’s tea industry, encouraging value-added production, and expanding its presence in international markets.
