Assam: Human Trafficking Racket Busted in Rangia, 13 Rescued

Police rescued 13 people, including a missing girl from Tezpur, during a raid in Kamrup (Rural) and arrested two suspected traffickers.

Guwahati: A suspected human trafficking racket was busted in Udiana, Rangia of Kamrup (Rural) district, where police rescued 13 people, including a missing girl from Tezpur, during a late-night raid.

The operation began after Tezpur Police traced the missing girl’s mobile phone to Rangia and alerted the local police. Acting on the information, Rangia Police tracked the location to the residence of suspected trafficker Taijuddin Ahmed in Udiana.

During the raid, police allegedly found 13 people, including 10 men and three women, confined inside a locked room. The missing girl from Tezpur was among those rescued.

Preliminary investigation suggests the victims, who are from different parts of Assam, were being held before being taken to Kashmir for work as labourers.

Police arrested Taijuddin Ahmed and his wife, Nayanmoni Begum, in connection with the case. According to police, Taijuddin has previously been arrested in multiple alleged human trafficking cases.

The rescued individuals are being reunited with their families, while police continue to investigate the wider trafficking network and identify any additional persons involved.
