In a candid conversation with actor Neha Dhupia on Instagram Live, renowned Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu opened up about the challenging journey she and her husband, Karan Singh Grover, embarked upon as parents to their daughter, Devi Basu Singh Grover. Born in November of the previous year, Devi’s arrival was marked by the discovery of a heart condition that left Bipasha teary-eyed as she recounted the ordeal.

Devi’s early days were shadowed by her diagnosis of having two holes in her heart, a condition known as ventricular septal defect (VSD). Bipasha shared that this news came as a shock on the third day after Devi’s birth, turning their experience as new parents into an unexpected journey of medical complexities. “Our journey has been very different from any normal mother and father,” Bipasha expressed, visibly moved by the memory.

The couple, still reeling from the unexpected news, delved into the intricacies of VSD, a condition they were unfamiliar with at the time. Bipasha revealed, “We didn’t even understand what a VSD is.” She continued to describe the period that followed as tumultuous, their initial shock and joyous celebration subdued by the reality they were faced with. “We wanted to celebrate, but we were a little numb, me and Karan,” she shared.

Bipasha conveyed how they embarked on the challenging journey of preparing their daughter for surgery, a difficult decision for any parent, especially when the child is just three months old. “You feel so sad, so burdened, so conflicted because how can you put such a small child in open heart surgery?” she reflected. She narrated their emotional rollercoaster, from consultations with doctors to the heart-wrenching hours of surgery, during which time their world seemed to stand still.

With immense strength, Bipasha shared that Devi’s fighting spirit shone through from day one. While the path was not easy, the couple found solace in the support of medical professionals and the experiences of other mothers who had faced similar challenges. Devi’s successful operation ultimately brought relief to the anxious parents.

In her conversation with Neha, Bipasha also extended a heartfelt message to fellow mothers, acknowledging the emotional turmoil that comes with having a child undergoing surgery. Her ordeal, however, led to a message of hope as she expressed, “Devi had a very successful operation, but those 6 hours when she was in the OT, my life felt like it stopped.”

Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover, who welcomed Devi Basu Singh Grover on November 12, the previous year, found strength in each other and the resilient spirit of their daughter. Devi’s journey, from her early struggles to her triumphant recovery, stands as a testament to the resilience of both the child and her parents.
