Guwahati: To promote awareness on the importance of preserving our biodiversity, the need to identify problems related to the environment and ways to take corrective action, World Environment Day (WED) is observed on June 5 every year.

It is a means to tackle environmental challenges that include climate changes, global warming, disasters and conflicts, harmful substances, environmental governance, ecosystem management and resource efficiency.

In order to meet the challenges posed due to global warming and to bring environment awareness among BSF troops, a mega plantation drive was observed on this day by Seema Praharies of Border Security Force (BSF) Frontier Headquarter Guwahati.

On this special occasion, the BSF organized various programmes including plantation of saplings of fruit bearing trees, ornamental trees and other shade trees, cleaning of campuses inside the BSF campus and awareness programme also organized.

Rajesh Kumar, IPS, Inspector General BSF Guwahati Frontier, inaugurated the drive by planting a sapling.

Rajesh Kumar, while addressing the BSF personnel prelude to the Mega Plantation Drive, reminded them about the significance of flora for the ecosystem where we live.

He insisted that the planting a tree means nurturing a whole living system and we should strive to keep our environment green by making survival of planted sapling.

He urged each BSF personnel to convey and convince this very noble idea to his colleagues and their families. BSF troops pledge towards fighting against environmental pollution.

The plantation drive was conducted at Frontier HQ BSF Guwahati and in under command Sector Headquarters & Units, in which all officers, subordinate officer and other ranks of BSF, and CAPFs Composite Hospital Patgaon.
