Cotton University and Aaranyak signs MoU on academic, research initiatives
Guwahati, July 27: Cotton University (CU), one of India’s premier institutions of higher education, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aaranyak, a leading research-driven biodiversity conservation organisation, to promote collaborative academic and research initiatives in the fields of biodiversity conservation, climate change, environmental governance, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development.
The MoU was formally signed by Dr. Hiren Deka, Registrar, Cotton University, and Dr. Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, Secretary General of Aaranyak, in the presence of Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University.
The five-year partnership aims to facilitate joint research projects, student internships, faculty and researcher exchanges, capacity-building programmes, collaborative publications, and knowledge-sharing activities through seminars, workshops, and other academic engagements.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Santanu Sarma, Dean, Research and Development; Prof. Eeshan Kalita, Dean, Students’ Welfare; and Dr. Narayan Sharma of the Department of Environmental Biology and Wildlife Sciences, Cotton University. Representing Aaranyak were Dr. Partha Jyoti Das and Mr. Udayan Borthakur, both Senior Scientists and Directors of the organisation.
The collaboration is expected to create a strong platform for interdisciplinary research, environmental stewardship, and meaningful academic engagement, while contributing to sustainable development and conservation efforts in the region and beyond.
Welcoming the partnership, Dr. Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, Secretary General of Aaranyak, said, “On behalf of Aaranyak, I extend my sincere gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Cotton University and his team for making this collaboration possible. This MoU will open up significant opportunities for joint work in applied research and conservation, ultimately benefiting students, researchers, and the broader academic community.”
The partnership reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and addressing pressing environmental challenges through science-based research and collaborative action.
