GUWAHATI: A Civil Court in Guwahati today, September 8 stayed the election of Atul Bora as the party president of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).

The Civil Court of Guwahati has held that the Kendriya Sadharan Parishad Meeting of AGP dated 27th August whereby Shri Atul Bora was elected as the Party President is in violation of the injunction order dated 26th August, the court statement said.

Previously on a suit filed by Girin Talukdar, Jiten Deka and Hemen Lahkar, the Civil Court passed a restraining order for the AGP Meeting dated 27th August stating, “The meeting is out and out illegal as it is against the constitution of AGP as well as against the COVID protocol.”

Despite the order, the 45 minutes long meeting was held without maintaining COVID protocols. An application was filed against the violators which included President Atul Bora, Vice President Keshab Mahanta, Phani Bhushan Choudhury, and others.

The Civil Court has also issued summon to the violators.
