DoT Assam organises awareness drive on prevention of sexual harassment at workplace
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Assam Licensed Service Area (LSA) organised an awareness drive on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) at the workplace today in Guwahati. The initiative aims to promote a safe and respectful work environment by enhancing awareness of the POSH Act among employees of various government and public sector organisations.
Addressing the workshop virtually Smt. Sunita Chandra, Advisor, DG Telecom, New Delhi said that this initiative seeks to educate employees, employers, and institutional stakeholders on the provisions of the POSH Act, mechanisms for redressal, and the responsibilities of organisations in building a safe environment for its employees.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Suresh Puri, Additional Director General and Head, Assam LSA, DoT said that “It is essential that every employee, regardless of gender, feels safe, heard, and empowered in their workplace. Through this awareness drive, we aim to enhance understanding of legal rights, institutional responsibilities, and the need to cultivate respectful professional environments across all sectors.”
The event feature sessions led by Ms. Moramee Das, Additional Superintendent of Police (Assam Police) and Ms. Trina Rekha Kalita, Advocate, Gauhati High Court. The speakers highlighted the legal safeguards provided under the POSH Act, which came into force in December 2013, aimed at ensuring a safe, secure, and respectful work environment for women.
Participants from around nine organisations, including State Bank of India (SBI), Union Bank, Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Office of the Controller of Communication Accounts (CCA), National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) actively took part in the workshop.
