DHUBRI, Feb 22 – Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that aircraft will start flying again from Rupshi airport from September this year after laying the foundation stone of the 3,500 sq feet terminal with a capacity of 250 persons having 10 check-in counters.
The 1,821-metre runway and the boundary wall have already been completed, the work for which started in mid-2018.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was held in the presence of six MLAs of western Assam, State Transport Minister Chandan Brahma, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary and a host of officials from the Airport Authority of India today.

“This airport will not only be a medium of development for the entire western Assam, but also for North Bengal and parts of Meghalaya,” he said, adding that the revival of this airport is a very important clause of the Bodoland Accord, which was signed in the year 2003. The Chief Minister also addressed a gathering in the Rupshi airport area and highlighted the achievements of his government.

Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu addressed the gathering through a video conference from Delhi. Rupshi airport is one of the seven airport infrastructure projects formally inaugurated by him today.
