Former Deputy Commissioner Debashish Sharma Joins BJP

Guwahati: Former Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer and Deputy Commissioner Debashish Sharma formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, marking his entry into active politics.

Sharma was inducted into the party at the BJP state headquarters in Guwahati in the presence of senior party leaders. His joining is being viewed as a significant addition to the party, given his long administrative experience in the state.

During the induction programme, BJP leaders welcomed Sharma and expressed confidence that his experience in public administration would strengthen the party’s organisational and developmental initiatives. Sharma, in turn, said he was inspired by the party’s vision for Assam and expressed his commitment to working for the welfare and progress of the people.

Before entering politics, Debashish Sharma served in several important administrative positions across Assam and was associated with key governance and development initiatives during his tenure in the state administration.

Political observers believe his transition from the civil services to active politics could have an impact on Assam’s political landscape, particularly ahead of future electoral engagements.
