Assam on the Path of Rapid Progress

The previous Congress governments waited till Assam bled .”

Once, even to demand a bridge over the Brahmaputra, Assam had to agitate,” says Assam Pradesh BJP.

Guwahati, November 8, 2025:

Earlier, whenever Assam sought development, it had to wrest it from the Centre through agitation and sacrifice. It appeared as though the former Congress-led Central Governments waited till blood was shed in Assam before granting its due. There existed a deep-rooted indifference towards Assam on the part of previous Congress regimes.

However, with the advent of the Bharatiya Janata Party Government at the Centre, that attitude has been completely transformed. The prevailing notion that the Centre looked upon Assam merely with the eyes of pity has been shattered. Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP Government has been taking every possible measure to shape Assam into a front-ranking State of India.

This observation was made in a press statement issued from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, the State BJP headquarters, by party media panellist Dilip Kumar Sharma.

The statement declares that the barriers to Assam’s progress and development no longer exist as they once did. The Assam of today has the strength to obtain whatever it seeks without confrontation or strife. Once, even for a single bridge over the Brahmaputra, Assam had to resort to mass movements. Now, without any agitation or conflict, as many as fourteen bridges have been completed or are under construction over the Brahmaputra , a testimony to the fact that the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one that genuinely nurtures Assam’s interests.

Speaking further on the subject of infrastructural advancement, Sharma asserted that for integrated development, the Central BJP Government has been initiating every possible step.

In the context of connectivity infrastructure, the statement highlights that under the Bharatmala Project, by 2025 alone , work is in progress for developing 433 kilometres of National Highway corridors in Assam at a partial capital expenditure of ₹18,119 crore. Within the same scheme, 349 kilometres of road construction have already been completed.

Beyond roadways, Assam has also received approval for 443 projects involving an investment of over ₹4,644 crore , the statement adds.

According to Dilip Kumar Sharma, under the patronage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the determined efforts of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam is poised to host semiconductor industries , a step that will enable the State to march shoulder-to- shoulder with technologically advanced States like Karnataka. These industries will generate employment for 27,000 youth.

In addition, the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor and the revival of the Namrup Fertilizer Plant are among key projects designed to make Assam and the Northeast self-reliant.

The Central Government’s support has already facilitated the establishment of an Ethanol Plant at Numaligarh.

Further, with an investment of ₹22.98 crore, the North-East Science and Technology Cluster has been established at IIT Guwahati. Other major projects include:

Foundation of 65 new secondary school buildings at a cost of ₹455 crore,

Development of Industrial Palm in Kokrajhar at ₹14.40 crore,

Upgradation of the Six Mile–Ukiam Road at ₹102.69 crore, and

Conversion of the two-lane approach to LGBI International Airport into a four -lane highway.

Each of these high-value projects stands as a living symbol of Assam’s accelerated march towards development.

The statement further affirms that beyond connectivity, under the benevolent vision of the Central BJP Government, Assam has witnessed unprecedented progress in education and health. Medical colleges have been established district-wise, and Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas have been expanded widely, bringing about a major reform in the education sector. In higher education, the establishment of several new universities within the last decade has elevated Assam’s academic stature to new heights.

Concluding the statement, Sharma reiterated that this unparalleled wave of development and transformation in Assam has been made possible solely because of the Bharatiya Janata Party Government at the Centre. Assam’s journey of triumph in development is irreversible.

Having already received a state-of-the-art medical institute like AIIMS, Assam has now achieved the distinction of securing an IIM-level premier management institute as well. The industrial sector too is resonating with success , the triumph of “Advantage Assam 2.0” has brought investment proposals worth ₹5.18 lakh crore, many of which are already in the implementation stage.

Among them, construction of the prestigious Medanta Hospital has commenced, and by December this year, investment proposals worth ₹1.70 lakh crore are expected to be operationalised in Assam, Sharma confirmed.
