Guwahati Active Mobility Forum and Pedal for a Change comes up with Active Mobility Challenge

Guwahati Active Mobility Forum along with Pedal for a Change has come out with an Active Mobility
Challenge. With this challenge they intend to motivate and encourage people to walk or cycle for various
purposes for short distances around the city.

WHAT IS ACTIVE MOBILITY?

Active Mobility means transportation of people or goods, through non-motorized means, based around
human physical activity. The best-known forms of active mobility are Walking and Cycling.
For many of us most of the places of our interest (work, school, college, office, gym, friends, family, parks,
etc) lay within 5 kms from our homes. For purposes or activities that are under 2 kms from our homes we
can easily reach by walking while places under 5 kms can be easily reached by cycling.

Walking or Cycling for such short distances not only helps improve our health but also helps to reduce
pollution and congestion on our city streets. We don’t have to spend our hard earned money to buy
precious fuel for our motor vehicles nor do we have to spend time struck in traffic or look out for
convenient parking spaces. The lure of owning and traveling in our own or hired private motor vehicles has
resulted in our streets getting polluted and congested.

HOW TO TAKE PART IN THIS CHALLENGE?

To participate in this challenge all you have to do is to use a Cycle or Walk to go to school / college / tuition
/ office / market / meet friends / meet family / gym/ sports activities – instead of your motor vehicle from 1st to 12th November 2021. Record your travel using Strava App (save it as commute activity) and update in www.pedalforachange.org/iamcarfreetoday

The most consistent participant will get recognised as Active Mobility Champ & a surprise gift.

COP26 – The United Nations Climate Change Conference 2021 is taking place at Glasgow, UK from 1
st to 12th November 2021. While the world leaders, scientists and activists will discuss about ways to reduce
carbon emissions there, we can contribute in our own way to reduce pollution and congestion by the way
we travel here.
