Guwahati Green Buses Face Strict Action; 63 Bus Drivers Lose Licences
GUWAHATI, July 9: The Kamrup Metro administration has cancelled the driving licences of 63 Green E-Bus drivers in Guwahati.
The action was taken following several accidents and repeated traffic violations involving these buses. A few days ago, a scooter rider was injured in Fancy Bazar after a Green Bus allegedly entered the wrong lane and hit him.
Following the incident, officials have introduced new rules. From now on, all Green Buses must remain in the left lane. If any bus is found violating traffic rules, it may be taken off the road for seven days.
Officials said the action aims to improve road safety and ensure better compliance with traffic regulations.
The Assam government had introduced 371 eco-friendly buses in Guwahati, including 271 electric buses, as part of its initiative to promote sustainable public transport. Officials also warned that further action will be taken if more violations are reported.
