Guwahati’s New Airport Terminal to Open by November 2025
Bamboo-Inspired Mega Structure to Handle 13 Million Flyers Annually, Transforming Air Travel in Northeast
In a major boost to Assam’s infrastructure, the new terminal building of Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is nearing completion and is slated to open by November 2025. Designed with a striking fusion of bamboo and orchid-inspired architecture, the terminal is set to redefine the air travel experience in Northeast India.
Covering a massive area of 140,000 square meters, the state-of-the-art facility will increase the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity from the current 2.2 million to an impressive 13.1 million — nearly a sixfold leap. This expansion is expected to ease congestion, accommodate future growth in traffic, and position Guwahati as a major aviation hub in the region.
Although the project initially faced delays, construction has picked up pace and is now progressing steadily towards its scheduled launch. Once operational, the terminal will not only improve connectivity but also reflect the cultural aesthetics of Assam through its design elements and sustainable materials.
The new terminal is part of a larger vision to modernize regional aviation infrastructure and support the growing demand for air travel in the Northeast. With completion on the horizon, it marks a significant step forward in making Guwahati a gateway to the region’s economic and tourism ambitions.
