International Yoga Day Celebrated in Kamrup with Enthusiasm

Kamrup,June 21: The 11th International Day of Yoga was celebrated today with great enthusiasm in Kamrup, under the initiative of the District Administration, Kamrup and the National AYUSH Mission, Assam. The main event was held at Swahid Bhawan, Mirza, where a mass yoga session was organized.
Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Environment and Forest etc. and Guardian Minister of Kamrup District, inaugurated the session.
In his address, Minister Patowary emphasized the importance of yoga in enhancing physical and mental well-being. He described yoga as a spiritual discipline encompassing both body and mind, highlighting that regular practice of yoga asanas and pranayama, contributes to a healthier and more balanced life. He encouraged the younger generation to embrace yoga as a step toward a healthier lifestyle.
Other dignitaries present at the event included Hemanga Thakuria, MLA, Palashbari; Diganta Kalita, MLA, Kamalpur; Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Rana Pratap Kalita, Chairman of the 7th Assam State Finance Commission; Deba Kumar Mishra, District Commissioner, Kamrup; and Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Bhaskar Kalita, Member, APSC, Kamal Baruah and Pranjit Kumar Deb, Additional District Commissioners, Kamrup. Senior district officials, members and trainees of Yog Gurukul, Assam and the Ayurvedic Medical Organisation, school students, and local residents also participated in the event.
This year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” resonated throughout the program. Winners of the district-level yoga competition, held in four categories on June 20, were felicitated during the event. Today’s program included a live broadcast of the speech delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of International Yoga Day at the central function held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. In addition to the main event, a parallel Yoga Day program was held at AIIMS-Guwahati in collaboration with the institute. Similar yoga programs were conducted at schools, health institutions, block offices, and Gaon Panchayat offices across the district.
