MediaTek Unveils 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro With Major AI and Efficiency Gains

MediaTek has unveiled its new flagship Dimensity 9600 Pro smartphone chipset, becoming one of the first major mobile processors built using an advanced 2-nanometre manufacturing process.

The new chipset, announced on September 15, is designed to deliver higher performance and improved power efficiency while significantly expanding the capabilities of artificial intelligence on smartphones.

Built using TSMC’s 2nm process technology, the Dimensity 9600 Pro is aimed at premium and flagship smartphones. MediaTek says the new architecture brings substantial improvements in computing efficiency, particularly for demanding multi-core workloads.

Artificial intelligence is a major focus of the new processor. The chipset has been developed to support more advanced on-device AI processing, allowing smartphones to handle increasingly complex generative AI and agentic AI tasks without relying entirely on cloud-based services.

The processor also targets improvements in gaming, photography and video processing. Its enhanced computing capabilities are expected to support more demanding graphics applications while improving power efficiency during everyday use.

MediaTek has positioned the Dimensity 9600 Pro as a major step forward in mobile computing, particularly as smartphone manufacturers increasingly rely on AI features as a key differentiator in flagship devices.

The company is expected to see the new processor adopted by major smartphone manufacturers for upcoming premium devices. Vivo has already indicated that its upcoming flagship lineup will use the new 2nm MediaTek platform.

The launch represents an important development in the smartphone chip industry, where manufacturers are competing to deliver faster processors, longer battery life and increasingly capable AI features in mobile devices.
