Meghalaya Bans Felicitation Of CM, Ministers And MLAs At Official Events
Shillong, July 31: The Meghalaya government has directed that Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers, Ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries will no longer be felicitated during official government programmes, in a move aimed at promoting administrative efficiency and discouraging VIP culture.
Under the new directive, all government departments, offices and agencies have been instructed not to organise or permit the presentation of bouquets, shawls, garlands, mementoes or similar tokens of honour to public representatives at official functions.
According to the government, the decision is intended to keep official events focused on governance and public service rather than ceremonial formalities. It also seeks to reduce unnecessary expenditure and make government programmes more professional and citizen-centric.
The order forms part of the Meghalaya government’s broader efforts to streamline official events and reinforce the principle that government functions should prioritise public interest over ceremonial protocol.
While the directive applies only to official government programmes, it is being viewed as a significant step towards reducing unnecessary formalities and fostering a more efficient and service-oriented administrative culture.
