Mizoram Rain: 80 Families Evacuated, Roads Cut Off
GUWAHATI, July 10: Heavy rain over the past week has flooded south Mizoram’s Lunglei district. More than 80 families have been evacuated to safer places, officials said on Friday.
In Tlabung town, 42 families were moved after the Khawthlangtuipui River submerged homes. In Tipperaghat village, around 40 more families were shifted as floodwaters entered houses and the local market.
Landslides and rockfalls were reported from over 29 places across the state. No casualties have been reported so far.
Roads Blocked
National Highway 54 has been closed after a major landslide in Bualpui village, leaving travellers stranded for four days. The Aizawl–Thenzawl–Lunglei Highway is also blocked due to a rockfall at Ngaizel.
Lawngtlai and Siaha districts have been cut off from the rest of the state.
Government Response
Disaster Management Minister Lalnilawma inspected the landslide site in Aizawl and assured that relief and financial assistance would be provided promptly.
He urged people to stay alert and report emergencies immediately instead of taking unnecessary risks.
