Guwahati, June 21, 2022: Modern English School, Guwahati, celebrates International Yoga Day on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. Students demonstrated Yoga asanas in three groups. Group A showcased asanas for beginners, Group B performed intermediary asanas, and Group C performed the advanced level asanas under the guidance of Yoga tutor Dr. Saiful Islam. Over 80 students participated in the event with great vigour and joy.

The occasion, focusing on mind-body balance, was initiated with a speech by Nibir Bhattacharjee of Class VIII. Students also created a display board comprising various artworks and articles on the significance of Yoga. Class VIII students performed a melodious group song to grace the occasion. Principal Mrs. Jonali Das addressed he students and discussed about the significance of the day and how Yoga can positively impact several aspects of their lives, from academic performance to stress management and overall physical and mental fitness.

The school has been specifically vocal about Yoga and encouraging students to make it a part of their life as it helps in gaining balance, strength, endurance, and physical and emotional stability. Besides, the school has been actively spreading awareness about mental health issues and educating students about the same. The school recently launched a mental health counselling division to help students deal with everyday stress and strike a balance between academic and personal life. It aided students with ways of handling stress and guided them in making healthy choices. The school administration felt the need for mental health counselling due to rising stress and anxiety among students, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
